5 Steps to an Easy Going Attitude



Have you found that the easiest people to be around are those that are easy going? Today I want to take a look at some ways that each one of us can tap into that part of us that is easy going, rather than stressed out, angry and uptight. Our true selves, the authentic part of us is always in an easy going state of mind. Our Consciousness is not easily ruffled by outside circumstances. When we allow our mind or ego to run the show rather than the ageless part of who we are, we can sometimes be anything but easy going.


I have found in my own life that when I am easy going, things tend to be easier for me. It’s like all those little annoyances and things that happen to us when we are in an ‘uptight mood’ seem to roll off of us. So how do we cultivate an easygoing and relaxed attitude to life.


I’ve put together five steps that I have found help me stay in an easy going state of mind, one where I am in control, rather than letting my intellect alone run the show. You probably do a few of them right now, but when you put them all together, they will help elevate you to a whole new way of seeing the world, and should help life become a little easier.


1. Slow Down.

Have you ever noticed when you rush, it’s like it heightens anxiety? When you purposely slow down your tempo, your consciousness has a chance to actually focus on what you are doing in the here and now, rather than allow your mind to completely take over, and you lose awareness.


2. Don’t Worry

Easier said than done right? Well really what is worry? Worry is simply choosing to think about what could go wrong. What if instead you choose to focus on what could go right instead. This simple shift in perspective will give you more peace that you can comprehend and is a great addition to living an easy going life.


3. Refuse to Judge

When we spend our time critiquing other people, it really can take away from our own peace of mind. Most likely we have no idea the whole back story of someone's life that is choosing them to act like they do. I have noticed that the more I focus on others, the less energy I have on working on myself and making myself into the best person I can be. As far as judging and being critical, be sure that you don’t become your own worst critic. Which leads me to the next point.


4. Stop Complaining

It’s so easy to get into a habit of complaining about things. I dare you to go 24 hours without complaining or saying one negative thing about any person, including yourself. If you take on this challenge, you will be amazed at how easy it is to complain. It’s easy to slip into this habit. However, the more we complain about things and notice the negative, the more it slowly starts to undermine our peace and the easy going attitude.

I double dare you to go the rest of the day without saying one complaining word, and instead only speak about what you love. You will start to feel a whole shift in your consciousness… and it will feel AMAZING!


5. Know that you are right on time.

Florence Scovel Schinn, one of my favorite authors, talks about how things that are meant for us, are ours by “Divine right.” We don’t have to worry that if we don’t rush, and grab and shove others out the way, the thing that we want won’t be there for us. Nothing that is ours by Divine right can be taken from us. Pushing others out the way and trampling over people is anything but conducive to living an easy going life of peace.


So there we go. Five simple tips to help you cultivate that easy going state of mind. Let’s go over them one more time.
